File Prep

Here's a brief overlay of how to best prepare your files.
Contact us if you have any questions.

Prepare Your Art

All files must be at least 300 dpi or Vector Format. If your file is not 300 dpi, you cannot increase the resolution of the file. This is called "upsampling" and will result in a blurry image. If you are creating your file in Adobe Illustrator or another Vector-based software, just size your image to the size you want it to print.

Half Tones & Color Separation

Halftone must be produced in shop. We use specialized programs outside of the Adobe suite to produce the correct halftone for use in making screens. Color separation is also a delicate process that sometimes requires work outside of Photoshop or Illustrator and is best taken care of by our prepress specialists. Please understand that some designs are complicated and will require file prep fees. We understand that you may be inclined to save money and try this on your own, however, it may end up costing you more in the long run if we have to rework artwork to it’s original form before setting it up for halftones and separation.

Exception: If you have a halftone pattern in your artwork as a design element. In a vector file make sure they are individual shapes or paths. For a raster file at 300 dpi, make sure each halftone dot is solid without any value shifting on the edges of each halftone shape.

Accepted File Types

We accept the following File Types: .PSD, .AI, .JPEG, .EPS, .PDF, .TIFF. We prefer .AI or .EPS files first because Vector images can be scaled without affecting quality. We prefer .PSD, .PDF, .TIFF second & .JPG last.

Size Your Design

Files should be sized to the approximate size in which you wish to have them printed. Take into consideration our max print area of 13”x16”. Keep in mind that bigger is not always better. We have a handful of “standard” sizes that we like to work with and can help lead you in the right direction for your project. So don’t hesitate to ask!

Convert Your Text to Outlines

With the abundance of typefaces and font families available online, all type must be converted to formats that we can use without having the same typeface installed on our computers.  All type in vector files need to be converted to outlines (shift+command+O in illustrator). In raster files all type needs to be rasterized.

Printed/Sewn In Tag Information

It is required by the US Government that the following information be included in all garments:

  • Size
  • % of Material
  •  Country of Origin (for the garment, not your brand)
  • Care Instructions

These are non-negotiable. We cannot list "Printed in the US" or "Processed in the US" instead of listing what country the shirt is manufactured in, it *must* have the country information on the garment. If you are unaware of the information needed for the shirts you are ordering, please leave your tag files editable and add placeholders for the information. When you submit your artwork, please submit the editable tag file (PSD or AI) as well as the fonts used to create the tag. The fonts are very important, as we cannot edit fonts we don't have.

Color Matching

We offer pantone color matching for your order upon request. Colors appear different from monitor to monitor, therefore the best way to make sure that you are seeing the same colors that we are is to use a Pantone Solid Coated Formula Guide. These can be purchased on amazon for around $100.
